All scout tours include the Wrecks and Rescues tour as part of the experience.

GIRL SCOUTS

girlscoutpatchWe are proud to offer a badge for Girl Scouts. Scouts are able to work together with a guide on a fact-finding mission around the museum to learn about some of the incredible feats and accomplishments of the Life-Saving Service and Coast Guard. Girls of all ages can earn the “Explore The Old Coast Guard Station” patch at the museum. The requirements can be done either entirely self-led or in conjunction with the Wrecks and Rescues guided tour (for more information, see our Group Tours). Once accomplished, scouts will quality to earn their “Explore the Old Coast Guard Station” badge, which can be purchased from the Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast shop. Packets for badge requirements can be downloaded through the Girl Scouts of Colonial Coast or by emailing education@oldcoastguardstation.com. All ages, 1 hour.

CUB SCOUTS

School of the Surfmen

Take a guided tour of the museum to learn about the Surfmen and the Life-Saving station. After the tour, get to utilize some skills the Surfman would use every day such as team building, knot tying, and semaphore. Available during normal museum operating hours and as an educational outreach program. 2 hours.
Tiger Requirements: Games Tigers’ Play

Group size: 5-30 children (complimentary admission for 2 group leaders)

Surfmen and Coasties

This tour highlights some of the people who used to work as Surfmen at the Old Coast Guard station and how the Coast Guard operates today. After the tour, you have the opportunity to utilize learned skills of the Surfmen to complete missions. Available during normal museum operating hours and as an educational outreach program. 90 minutes

Bear Requirements: Grin and Bear it; Paws for Action
Bear Elective: Salmon Run

Story Time

Join a costumed storyteller for a fun book reading and other activities! Children ages 3-9 must be accompanied by an adult. Story Time is included in regular museum admission on regularly scheduled days in the summer, or as a group program.

Wrecks and Rescues

Take a guided tour of The Old Coast Guard Station to learn about the Life-Saving Service (the predecessor of the Coast Guard). You’ll hear stories of heroic acts and get to see some of the equipment used to rescue people from sinking ships. All ages, 60 minutes.

GHOSTWALK: SHIPWRECKS AND GHOST LORE

OCGS-BWTake a stroll along the boardwalk with a costumed storyteller and hear stories of tragic shipwrecks, pirates, and other eerie tales associated with the Old Coast Guard Station. Ages 6+, 90 minutes.
